DESCRIPTION:Join us for another installment of our Packsaddle Lecture Series at NERAM! \nThis month you’ll hear from Sydney-based textile curator and author\, Louise Mitchell\, in her lecture The Modernist Muse: Crafting the Aesthetic of 1920’s Fashion. \nIn this talk\, audiences will look at fashion from the 1920s and the influence of the Art Deco movement on textiles during this period. Alongside two fashion-forward exhibitions\, Pochettes en Fête and DistoMorph: Svenja\, Louise will take audiences deeper into the world of fashion and wearable design\, understanding how fashion and art converge to create exciting new artistic frontiers. \n\nAbout Louise Mitchell \nLouise Mitchell was the Curator of International Decorative Arts and Design at the Powerhouse Museum from 1984 to 2007 and is now a freelance curator. In 2015 she curated Labours of Love: Australian Quilts 1845-2015 for the Hazelhurst Arts Centre. She is an approved valuer for the Australian Government’s Cultural Gifts Program specialising in textiles\, costume and accessories after 1700\, and archival material relating to textiles\, costume and accessories. \nAuthor of The Cutting Edge: Fashion from Japan\, her previous publications include Stepping Out: Three Centuries of Shoes and Christian Dior: The Magic of Fashion. \n\nAbout the Packsaddle Lecture Series \nWith sponsorship from the Packsaddle Fundraising Group\, one of NERAM’s key supporting bodies\, four lectures are presented each year within the NERAM galleries. The Packsaddle Lecture Series invites leading guest speakers to explore aspects of Australian and international artistic practices and history.
